How to Use Your Relationships to be Better

Rather not read and watch a video instead? Skip to the bottom to watch me talk about the topic instead.

Last night, I went to see one of my dear friends teach an inspiring class for moms looking for, well, some inspiration. She did a badass job entertaining, educating, and motivating everyone in the crowd. But for me, her talk inspired something very specific. I left with the desire to be better: a better teacher, speaker, and spiritual ally to all my students and readers.

While congratulating her at the end of her class, one of the first things that came out of my mouth was, “You make me want to be better.” She answered with a quite matter-of-fact attitude, “Well, you make me want to be better, and that’s exactly why this works.”

The “this” she was referring to is our friendship… our relationship. When she said this, I felt as if I wanted to pat myself on my back. Why? Because I felt like I had reached a point in my life where I was no longer jealous of others, but rather inspired by their greatness to be something more.

Her ability to shine that night, reminded me that I am capable of the same. It gave me permission to be great. And it reminded me that each of us has access to an infinite amount of greatness. After all, we were all made equal by the same creator.

Lately, I’ve been admiring each of my friends’ best traits. I actually complimented my bestie the other day for the sophistication she demonstrates when others try to reel her in to gossip. She never indulges in gossip. Rather, she’ll offer a compassionate response and move on. She, too, makes me want to be better.

Benny, my husband, never worries about what others think of him. It’s truly beautiful watching him in action. Yes, he too, makes me want to be better.

Being that it’s a new year, I believe it’s a perfect time to reevaluate the relationships you keep. Do these people make you feel better? Or do you somehow always feel shitty about yourself or your actions while with them?

This road to greatness that I’m on (and you are too!) ain’t no walk in the park. But when surrounded by the right people, you suddenly began to feel like you’re traveling with less baggage.

Oh, by the way, I made a little video for you on this exact topic in case you’re tired of reading. Let me know which you prefer in the comments below. And don’t forget to subscribe to my free newsletter for some life-shifting tips and exciting classes.
